Online marketers ‘turning to web development services’

Many businesses operating within the online industry are using professional services such as tax, accounting or web design in their work, a survey has suggested.

According to research by Practical eCommerce, over 40 per cent of all those asked said that that their company had used a professional web designer for things like basic web implementation, coding and content management.

Of those businesses earning between $501,000 (£307, 339) and $1 million, 50 per cent said they had used web development services to help with improving their shopping cart platforms and integrating store systems with accounting software among other things…

Seven Common Mistakes That Cause New Advertisers To Fail

The fundamentals of a good pay-per-click campaign have not changed over the past six years. However, every single day, advertisers new to the world of PPC advertising are making the same mistakes as veterans made years ago.

You can save yourself lots of time and money by examining the mistakes of others so that you do not fall into the same traps of creating unprofitable PPC campaigns. Here are seven of the most common mistakes I see new advertisers make—and more importantly, how to avoid them.

Not setting & measuring campaign goals

Before you start any advertising campaign you should set the goals for what you wish that campaign to achieve. If you do not have goals, there is no way to know which keywords, ad copy or landing pages are meeting your goals or just wasting money. A conversion goal is a metric your define for your account. It could be a form fill, a phone call or an eCommerce checkout. First, set your account goals. Second, find a way to measure those goals…

At eBay, Showrooms Push Aside Yard Sales

…In July, eBay reported that sales in its core shopping business fell 14 percent, to $1.3 billion, in the second quarter. While e-commerce continues to feel the impact from the slowdown in consumer spending, analysts said the slide appeared to be nearing its bottom.

In the case of GM, eBay will play the role not of a retailer, but of a liquidator. “A big part of the focus will be helping dealers clear inventory from their lot,” says Rob Chesney, vice-president of eBay Motors. All of the cars listed on gm.ebay.com are new, but many are 2008 and 2009 models that have been passed over for the 2010 arrivals…

Survey Reveals Region Specific Strategies for Surviving Today’s Tough Economy

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) around the world expect the global economy to rebound by the end of 2009 (25 percent) or mid-2010 (34 percent) according to an independent survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Verio Inc., the leading provider in delivering online business solutions to SMBs worldwide.

Interviewing executives from small and medium-sized businesses from around the globe to better understand how they are approaching business strategy during the global recession, a report detailing the results of the survey, Understanding Growth Priorities of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses, noted that the top three growth challenges facing SMBs were reaching new customers, attracting and retaining talented employees, and access to cash flow.

In helping to prepare for an improved economy, companies ranked the most important areas as technology, marketing, operations, production, sales, customer service and research and development. Companies in all regions reported that technology efforts will focus on improving processes and exploring new ways to improve their business in light of the downturn.

Work-at-home scam detection

Unfortunately it’s safe to say that the majority of work-at-home opportunities are scams. With the current state of the economy it appears that more and more scams are popping up to take your money. The bottom line is this: Research any employer, offline or online, before sharing your information and accepting a “job opportunity.”

The flip side to this is due to the massive amount of online work scams a lot of legitimate businesses get wrongfully labeled as a scam. The word “scam” is tossed around on the internet with little regard. I would venture to say that the majority of legit online business opportunities have been labeled a scam at one time or another. Simply because an employee had a minor problem with receiving product on time or a clerical error delayed processing of their application doesn’t mean the business is a scam…

GM Launches Online Car Market

Online auction giant eBay has teamed up with General Motors to try to help boost business and perhaps, change the way consumers shop for new cars. The majority of California’s GM dealers are taking part in the trial program which kicked off Tuesday. GM officials say the experimental program is aimed at making it easier for consumers to buy a new car.

For consumers who don’t like the sales pressure on the showroom floor, General Motors and eBay say there’s another way.

Ebay motors vice president Rob Chesney says with a computer, potential car buyers can let their fingers do all the work. “For the first time, they will be able to see a virtual showroom of California dealers of GM inventory. They will be able to shop across models, across dealerships,” he said…

Easy money-making ideas with online sites

Alex Tew was like any other college student with a low bank account, student loans waiting to burden him after graduation and dreams of making millions of dollars. Except there was one difference: He made the million. Tew was an undergraduate determined to avoid a life of debt after college, so after nights of brainstorming ways to make cash quick, he came up with the Web site known as www.milliondollarhomepage.com.

The idea was simple: Make one million pixels of advertising space available to sell for $1 each. He not only managed to make $1 million in five months, but he later became known as an Internet phenomena.

Similar to Tew’s story, Mark Zuckerberg was an undergraduate with a small idea that he brought online, and he ended up making millions as founder and CEO of Facebook…
